I’ve learned the many benefits of Yoga since about the age of 14 but never really took them into consideration. At that age I didn’t want to hear what anyone said and would much rather be doing something else than doing yoga. Sadly, my yoga practice stopped there.
Upon getting older, this time in my college years the thoughts and benefits of yoga began to appear again. I had started a meditation class and figured it would give me what I was looking for. I was happy but knew I needed something more. After much contemplation I took the plunge and invested in Bikram Yoga. I had heard much about it and out of curiosity wanted to find out more. Bikram was a beautiful experience, due to my sense of ease in life after every class. I would leave the studio and feel refreshed. Releasing toxins and stretching my body in places I never knew it could. It felt damn good too.
Considering how expensive Yoga classes were I didn’t return after the reduced price unlimited week. I pushed it under the rug but for only a short time. I knew that Yoga was something so great that I just had to participate. I wasn’t sure how I would come up with the money, but I knew I would do yoga again. After searching various studios with low costs and participating in a sliding scale class I found my current studio. How you ask? I knew that a large number of Yoga studios offer work study and took to google. I found a couple studios but never got pass the initial email stages.
It was as if my UniLove had aligned me exactly with my current yoga studio. The studio is small, the teachers and staff are super amazing. Located in a section of Brooklyn I adore and just great for my needs. Working at the studio makes me feel like I’m making a difference in the lives of others as well as gaining experience. Now practicing with this studio!!! Being the classes are small, teachers have the opportunity to work directly with students where they need help. This makes me super happy and allows me the chance to actually keep practicing. I had been doing my downward dog incorrectly but my teachers worked with me to make it better.
After every class I feel much happier and most of all a better citizen. I am calmer and want to make better decisions for my health. Yoga is so amazing that I now find myself practicing poses randomly throughout the day.Yoga helps you to have confidence in yourself. This was great when I looked at the others in my class like your crazy doing head stands but I knew that if they could do it i could too. I just had to believe in myself and I am now doing headstands and getting better at it everyday.
Yoga does Matter! It helps me to want to do better for me. It helps me to make better choices and to become more grounded and in tune with my mind and body. Yoga has been done for centuries and many have benefitted. I think it should be practiced more often, to eliminate all the disease and corruption in the world. Yoga is everything mind body and spirit.
